Hospital Overview
Chongqing Emergency Medical Center, also known as Central Hospital of Chongqing University, Fourth People's Hospital of Chongqing, was founded in 1939, formerly known as Zhongzheng Hospital, renamed the First Workers Hospital of Southwestern Industrial Department in 1950, in 1954 Changed its name to Chongqing First Workers Hospital. In 1984, it was renamed Chongqing Fourth People's Hospital. In March 1988, the Fourth People's Hospital Chongqing was merged with the original Chongqing First Aid Station to form a new Chongqing Emergency Medical Center and new Chongqing Fourth People's Hospital. It was approved as a national 3A general hospital in 1995, and established Chongqing Emergency Medical Research Institute in 2003, and became the affiliated hospital of Chongqing University in October 2017. It is a modern large-scale hospital integrating emergency treatment, medical treatment, scientific research, teaching and prevention. The hospital provides comprehensive medical services to the public, and at the same time fulfills the public health rescue function under the leadership of Chongqing Municipal Government and daily emergency functions of Chongqing, and is responsible for the 120 command and dispatch of the eight districts of the main city. The hospital is the International Emergency Rescue Organization Network Hospital, the National Emergency Medical Rescue Team's advance team, the Chongqing Medical University Clinical Practice Base, the Chongqing Resident Standardized Training Base, the National Resident Standardized Training Base, the National Clinical Pharmacist Training Base, the national-level severe trauma standardized treatment training base, Chongqing Aviation Rescue Alliance, Chongqing Emergency and First Aid Alliance, and the lead hospital of Chongqing Trauma Relief Alliance.
The hospital is located in the intersection of the transportation hub of Yuzhong District, Chongqing, with beautiful environment and convenient transportation. The total construction area of the hospital is 102,000 m2, and there are 1200 beds. The hospital has 1431 employees, including 196 with senior titles, 224 with master and doctor degree, 9 master's tutors, 8 government subsidies experts, and Chongqing medical leading talent. The hospital is equipped with advanced medical equipment: 2 64 rows of 128-slice spiral CT and 1 16-slice spiral CT, 2 1.5T NMR, 2 full digital flat-panel angiography machines (DSA), 2 digital radiography systems, 2 mobile digital radiography systems, 1 single photon emission computed tomography scanner (SPECT-CT), 1 German extracorporeal circulation machine (artificial heart-lung machine), 4 digital high-definition thoracoscopic laparoscopics, 4 Philippine color ultrasounds, 1 digital high-definition neuroendoscope, 2 surgical microscopes, automatic biochemical analysis pipeline and other large medical equipment. The hospital built the first smart pharmacy in Southwest China at the end of 2015, and took the lead in realizing the construction of a drug traceability system in the country.
Medical discipline construction and characteristic medical technology
The first, second and third grades of disciplines are complete in the hospital, with 36 clinical medical departments and 46 specialized disease clinics. Among them, emergency medicine is a national key clinical specialty, trauma surgery and pre-hospital emergency medicine are key medical disciplines in Chongqing, intensive medicine department, cardiovascular medicine, orthopedic medicine, neurosurgery , clinical Nursing and neurology are the key clinical specialties in Chongqing. Nerve injury and critical illness is a special medical specialty in Chongqing. Disciplinary construction fully reflects the characteristics of critical illness and trauma treatment. The trauma treatment theory proposed by our trauma surgery team has been introduced into the European Recovery Guide (2005 edition, 2010 edition, 2015 edition). The traumatic critical illness medicine has become a dominant discipline with high influence in China. After years of hard work, the hospital has made progress in mobile hospital practice and mobile life support technology, and has made progress in comprehensive treatment of multiple injuries, neurosis and craniocerebral trauma treatment, cardiovascular and macrovascular emergency treatment, among which the heart interventional therapy, aortic dissection, endoscopic and other minimally invasive diagnosis and treatment techniques have been greatly improved, the development and application of new technologies for prevention and treatment of diabetic foot, and new breakthroughs in super senior age surgery, skill of lower brain stem hematoma removal surgery under microscope and nerve endoscopic filled the gap in the field in our city. The hospital passed the National Chest Pain Center Certification and was approved as Advanced Stroke Center Construction Unit. It is the Standing Committee hospital of the China Trauma Treatment Alliance, the Standing Committee hospital of the International Trauma Treatment Alliance, the Standing Committee hospital of the Emergency Branch and the Trauma Branch of the Chinese Medical Association.
Research and teaching
Since 1964, the hospital has undertaken more than 50 years of teaching tasks in the internship stage of many medical colleges such as Chongqing Medical University and Chongqing Pharmaceutical College. In the past 20 years, our hospital has jointly recruited and trained students of master's degree with Chongqing Medical University and Chongqing University, and established a sound medical education system, teaching management and assessment system in the long-term teaching practice. The hospital conducts undergraduate, postgraduate teaching, national resident physician training, undergraduate internships, basic technical staff training, general practitioner training, primary hospital first-aid skills training. The hospital has a well-equipped clinical skills training center with first-aid features. It is the Chongqing Emergency Medical Training Center and the American Heart Association (AHA) Cardiovascular Emergency Training Center.
Relying on the Chongqing Emergency Medical Research Institute, Chongqing University Emergency and Critical Diseases Research Institute, Chongqing University Trauma Medicine Center and other platforms, our hospital established the Chongqing Academician Workstation in 2018, and introduced teams of experts to conduct medical scientific research. In the past 5 years, the hospital has undertaken 97 various scientific research projects, won 1 second prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award, 1 first prize of Chongqing Natural Science, 2 second prizes of Chongqing Science and Technology Progress, and 6 other prizes from provincial and ministerial bureaus.
The hospital has established a multi-dimensional international and domestic cooperation platform to strengthen cooperation with well-known universities and hospitals. In 2017, it established an all-round strategic alliance with Peking University People's Hospital for medical, teaching, research and management. The hospital has signed international cooperation agreements with the United States, Germany, Italy, and the United Kingdom, and exchanged professional and technical personnel, conducted international tele-consultations, and modern hospital management exchanges to further improve the hospital's connotation construction, research and teaching.
Emergency Rescue
The hospital fulfilled the public health rescue function of the Chongqing Municipal Government, the daily emergency function of 120 command and dispatch, and organized and implemented the construction and improvement of the city's three-level first aid network. The hospital has an advanced 120 command and dispatch system, and the newly-built 120 smart dispatch cloud platform will be put into use in the near future. There are 57 emergency vehicles/rescue vehicles. At present, Chongqing Emergency Medical Center has been established as the leader, 7 sub-centers are the backbone, 76 network hospitals in the main city area and 25 district/county hospitals (emergency stations) as the main body to cover the city's emergency medical service system and professional team. A comprehensive land and air emergency medical service for ground ambulance first aid and aerial helicopter rescue become a reality. Helicopter aviation emergency medical services have been in normal operation since 2018. The hospital plays an important role in the domestic and international health emergency rescues such as the natural gas blowout in Kaixian, the SARS, the Wenchuan earthquake, the 4.20 Lushan Strong Earthquake, the Yunnan Ludian Earthquake, and the “4.25” Nepal Earthquake.
